In a city where hockey is a way of life, you can still see how snooker has its place here.  Former professional  from Quebec, Alain Robidoux,  continues to play the game 30 years later.  

Montreal has a long history of snooker players and fans that date back over 50 years.  Mordecai Richler, an avid snooker fan, even wrote a book about it.  

A new snooker academy has recently opened up and is looking to teach the younger generation new snooker skills. 

Canada will also be hosting the IBSF Under 21 World Championships this summer in Montreal at The Sheraton Montreal Airport Hotel on July 12-July 23.

This world class event is sure to create a buzz in Montreal and create more popularity for the game of snooker.    Players from over 40 different countries will compete for the ultimate prize of getting on the professional snooker tour.

The tournament will last 10 days and will have 10 snooker tables set up for competitive play. The format begins with a round robin stage, and is followed by the nerve racking knock off stage until it
eventually reaches the final 2.

This promises to have a spectator base from all demographics to attend and enjoy watching  the future generation of snooker.  Who knows?  Maybe one of the more famous people who love snooker just might show up to watch, including musician Rod Stewart, golfer Vijay Singh, and boxing analyst Russ Anber.
